The proposed project will locate and characterize contaminant sources and initiate correction of bacterial, nutrient, and hazardous material discharges to receiving waters in these towns and urbanizations. The geographic scope (the “study area”) of the proposed illicit discharge project includes the urbanized areas as documented by the department’s mapping data which will be provided. The mapped data will show the minimum limits to the scope of testing in these towns. There is a total of about 82 outfalls. In addition to this new survey, a recheck of previously corrected outfalls with illicit discharges is needed for 4 additional sites and advanced investigation follow up work is needed for 5 suspect septic system outfalls and 3 suspect sanitary system outfalls.
