Big Data: Data Analytics, Infrastructure, Management, Security and Visualization
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division (NSWC Corona) will be hosting the next event for the In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) of the Future initiative on February 27-28, 2019. The forum will be held at the following location: The February 27th and 28th forum will be at Corona City Hall - Council Chamber located at 400 South Vicentia Avenue, Corona, CA 92882.
The theme of this event is centered on "Big Data: Data Analytics, Infrastructure, management, Security and Visualization"and will consist of an in-depth review of the problems, issues, barriers, challenges, and opportunities associated with ISEA of the Future implementation of Big Data technologies. Following on from the events held in August and November 2018 at NSWC Port Hueneme Division, NSWC Corona seeks interest from industry, academia, and state, local and federal entities capable of providing expertise, capabilities, facilities and experience relative to this subject that would like to participate in discussions with the ISEA community.
Topics:
Big Data Means Big Bandwidth: An emphasis has been put on increased immersive ship support by ISEA personnel utilizing AR/VR, digital twin, etc. but this requires massive amounts of data to be sent/received. Faced with the current and most likely future limitations sea to shore bandwidth, how should the Navy ISEA community address this issue?
Disparate Data Solutions - Organizing the Data Junk Drawer: The Navy utilizes many sources of data to produce a coherent set of information that can be utilized for analysis. This data is abundant and often times unstructured, incongruent, incomplete or incorrect. How can the Navy best manage, aggregate and utilize disparate data without creating negative side-effects associated with use of enterprise applications (one size fits all), brute force methods (no analysis and design, just development), and over-analysis of data requirements (no development, just analysis and design)?
Data Visualization - Rebranding as Knowledge Transparency: Navy leaders are faced with challenges to quickly acquire the knowledge for decision making due to data visualization quality, biases, over-complexity, and inapplicability. How can the Navy move towards an environment and culture where leaders have access to quick, concise, and robust actionable knowledge utilizing the most advanced visualization methods?
Cybersecurity - The New Cold War Heats Up: The current Navy and DoD cybersecurity realm is vast, ever-changing, and relatively uncharted. The existing data security methods are most likely not sufficient for big data needs. What are the cybersecurity challenges associated with big data, how can the Navy establish a clear concise direction forward, and are there resources outside of the DoD that should be utilized in collaboration for the common goal of ensuring cybersecurity?
