The Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center is soliciting bids for a Interior Finishes (Project #5) with a mandatory walk-thru on March 23, 2010 2:00pm.  Small business are encourged to bid.

The intent of this Scope of Work is to correct the interior finishes issues at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center.

The Center interior finishes issues include:

Ventilation:

 Provide a 200 CFM ceiling exhaust fan with integral brackdraft damper and 20 LF of 6" diameter duct.  Provide two air intake grilles: one in the janitor closet, and one in the storeroom.  Connect the two registers to the common riser with 6" diameter duct and appropriate fittings.  Run the duct through the concrete third floor. Extend the duct 1 LF through the roof and provide appropriate roof cap.  Energize from lighting circuit, using the existing switch and 20 LF of 3 #12 in ½" EMT.  Provide for drywall repair if necessary. 

• Provide a wall mounted 100 CFM exhaust fan with integral backdraft damper in each toilet room.  Connect the units to the lighting circuits utilizing the existing light switches for fan operation.   

Rehab Restrooms:

   The interior finish materials shall be ceramic tile floors and wainscot, and drywall, and drywall walls and ceiling.  New layout shall include a handicap toilet and sink in each restroom.  Total square footage is approximately 100 SF.  Provide one audio-visual fire alarm device (15 cd) in each restroom (2 total) and connect to the existing fire alarm system.     

Repair and Replace: 

 • Install one floor drain in each of the four (4) laundry rooms.  Test the laundry floors to determine if they have a slope to it, establish a location for a new floor drains, tie in to the other laundry drain plumbing after removing the necessary amount of concrete.  (4-core drill, 4 new floor drain units, 160 LF of 4' PVC pipe)

• Replace corroded junction box with a functionally equivalent non-corrosive metallic unit suitable for use by code in wet locations.  Provide myers hubs for conduit connections.  The new unit shall have gasketed cover and conduit opening to maintain the water proof integrity of the interior.  Coordinate with deficiency 52357 which addresses the relocation of the nearby gas line.  For cost estimation purposes, use: one Nema type 4X junction box 13-1/2" Hx 10 W x 7-3/16" D in size, 12 hours labor for one electrician.

Paint:

• Hire a lead-based paint inspector to collect paint chip samples of the paint prior to removal.  Follow OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1926.62) regarding lead-based paint during removal, if necessary.  Remove existing paint and repaint approximately 30% of surface area, approximately 4000 SF.

Medical Science Building - 7E Renovation (CP2400920) On January 26th 2024 a fire and explosion occurred on the 7th floor of MSB in the east wing laboratories. Physical damage was extensive within the high impact area of approximately 5000 SF impacting interior construction including mechanical electrical and plumbing infrastructure, exterior windows, casework and finishes. ed and destroyed lab casework, and damaged interior finishes. More limited damage extended to other areas of the east wing. Existing windows, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, and fire alarm systems were damaged and will need to be replaced in the high impact area and partially replaced or repaired where the impacts of the incident extended to other areas of the 7thy floor. The repair project will return the 7th floor east wing to service for research. The project scope includes renovating approximately 11,800 square feet of high and low impact areas of the 7th floor. The project includes an alternate restroom renovation designed to meet current codes. Infrastructure repair and replacement includes wet pipe fire suppression, acid waste & vent stack replacement, sanitary waste & vent stack replacement, domestic water and lab water systems, lab gas replacement, plumbing equipment replacement, telecom infrastructure, and window replacement. Laboratory repairs include fume hood and laboratory replacement, and required laboratory sinks, eye wash, and infrastructure needed to support specialized laboratory equipment. The project will develop two separate sets of bid documents for competitive bidding, one of which will capture the preexisting laboratory build out and one that modifies the previous existing laboratory design to more closely align with ongoing lab renovations in other areas of the building and the long range masterplan for the Medical Science Building. Base Estimate & Alternates: $4,180,000.00
