The Joint High-Speed Vessels (JHSVs) were originally designed for a crew of 44 persons. During the construction of the first vessel, it was decided that the US Navy would operate all of the vessels. As a result, MSC was able to down-size from berthing for 44 persons to a required berthing level of 34 persons. Therefore, all of the berthing spaces will be redesigned for the reduced number of crew members.
