The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to enter into a sole source purchase order with the University of Connecticut to provide technical assistance to the Electron and Optical Physics Division. Dr. Marin Pichler, a Uconn Research Associate has extensive experience, both experimental and theoretical, in the areas covering the required work. Specifically, Dr. Pichler shall demonstrate progress in: developing at least one micromagnetic trap architecture that is compatible with a scalable quantum information architecture; designing and fabricating a prototype for at least one trap architecture; developing a method of extracting atoms reliably from the NIST deterministic single-atom source; developing a low-loss transport technique to move atoms from the NIST deterministic single-atom source to the trap prototype; and designing experiments to test the coherence properties of an atom held in a micromagnetic trap.
