The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to enter into a sole source purchase order with the University of Connecticut to provide technical assistance to the Electron and Optical Physics Division. Dr. Marin Pichler, a Uconn Research Associate has extensive experience, both experimental and theoretical, in the areas covering the required work. Specifically, Dr. Pichler shall demonstrate progress in: developing at least one micromagnetic trap architecture that is compatible with a scalable quantum information architecture; designing and fabricating a prototype for at least one trap architecture; developing a method of extracting atoms reliably from the NIST deterministic single-atom source; developing a low-loss transport technique to move atoms from the NIST deterministic single-atom source to the trap prototype; and designing experiments to test the coherence properties of an atom held in a micromagnetic trap. The Government anticipates the award of a firm-fixed price purchase order on or about October 15, 2002. The proposed requirement is for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, the Government will consider all capability statements received by September 10, 2002. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. A Request for Quotation (RFQ) package is not available.
