Opportunity Summary ODFW The Dalles field office is proposing to treat approximately 2,600 acres of grassland on Lower Deschutes Wildlife Area with an aerial application of Open Range G (granular form of imazapic) herbicide as a follow up to a treatment with liquid Panoramic herbicide that occurred in 2019. ODFW is proposing the follow up treatment with aerial application of granular Open Range G for the following reasons: -Initial liquid imazapic treatments in October 2019 were unsuccessful in getting full control of medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae) and cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) in some areas. -Fall 2019 liquid herbicide treatment was delayed, which allowed establishment of annual grasses and native vegetation, reducing soil contact and effectiveness of liquid herbicide. -Granular form of Open Range G allows herbicide to penetrate all established vegetation and increase herbicide effectiveness at control of annual grasses. -The landscape of the canyon precludes the use of ground based equipment. -Re-treatment of delineated areas with Open Range G will allow native vegetation to re-establish.
