The purpose of this market survey is to support the FAA requirement to replace the current Radio Communications Equipment’s (RCE’s) Centralized Maintenance System’s (CMS’s) Communication Server Interface Unit (CSIU).    The FAA requires a quantity of 168 RCE CMS CSIU Units to perform a technical refresh of the 25-year-old Radio Control Equipment (RCE) Centralized Maintenance System (CMS) installed in the National Airspace System (NAS).  The current RCE CMS CSIU is obsolete.

The RCE CMS CSIU replacement unit must meet the following operational requirements: 

  • Each unit should include an interface standard that uses higher voltage levels in excess of 5 VDC magnitude in support of the RS-232 interface specification.
  • Provides RS-232 signaling in excess of +8.3 VDC magnitude when driving 8 receivers simultaneously at only 9600 bits per second (bps)

The purpose of this market survey is to solicit statements of interest and capabilities from vendors who are interested in and can show capability of meeting requirements as noted in this market survey.

Responses to this market survey will be used for informational purposes only.  This is not a screening information request or request for proposal or quote of any kind.  The FAA is not seeking or accepting unsolicited proposals.  The FAA will not pay for any information received or costs incurred in preparing a response to this market survey.  Therefore any cost associated with a market survey submission is solely at the interested vendor’s expense. 

In order to meet the capability determination the FAA requires the following from interested vendors:

Serial Ports:  Up to 16 per unit; total of 4 units may be ganged (daisy chained); Form factor is 4 columns of 4-ea. DB-25P connectors on a panel. Columns moving left to right and associated connectors are numbered top to bottom 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16.  Each DB-25P port provides TX/RX signal status.

Interface Type:  RS-232; TX output drive: ≥ [±10V @20ma per channel]

Connector Type:  DB25 Male Pin

Expansion Ports:  USB A, 1 per unit

Computer Port :  USB B, USB 1.0 – 1.1 compatible Plug and Play
