Goal:
The goal for this treatment is to treat all acres and reduce presence of pinyon/ juniper and late seral shrub species, while maintaining/increasing shrub and grass species structure and age class diversity. Desired Mosaic: The overall mosaic is a mix of shrub/grass with little juniper and late seral shrub species, resulting in the retention of 80-85% of the area in the early, seral grass/forb/shrub. The specifications of this project are to treat all of the juniper trees (juniper cover should be limited to up to 1% of the project area) and treat 40 to 50% of the service berry population. A bobcat mounted bullhog (masticator) shall be used to implement the treatment. During the treatment process the mastication head shall not get closer than 2 inches to the ground in an effort to mitigate impacts to the soil. Contractor shall ensure that all juniper limbs attached to the root system of the tree are treated.
