The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Material Measurement Laboratory, applied Chemicals and Materials Division (647), requires a microbalance in order to support multiple projects related to thermodynamic studies and standard reference material (SRM) development.

The Contractor shall provide a microbalance that includes the following technical specifications:

• Readability of 0.001 milligram (or smaller)
• Repeatability of 0.002 milligram (or smaller) with a load of approximately 1 gram
• Linearity of 0.010 milligrams (or smaller)
• Maximum load mass of 20 grams (or higher)
• Minimum load mass of 5 milligrams (or lower)
• LED or LCD (or similar) electronic display
• An integrated (non-radioactive) anti-static device / ionizer to diffuse static electricity
• On-site installation and verification of the microbalance by a certified technician, followed by user training
• Warranty: A minimum warranty period of 1 year is required. It is very desirable for the device to be serviced in place since shipping could easily affect the calibration or performance of the device.
