The US Forest Service, Chugach National Forest, intends to award a sole source, firm fixed price purchase order using simplified acquisition procedures to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to continue mapping key vegetation types for moose using aerial photography and data collection for further development of the FRESH moose habitat model. This purchase order is a continuation of collaborative work between the Forest Service and Alaska Department of Fish and Game with regards to moose habitat capability projects. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to: 1) Determine the relationship between key plant species and aerial photography signatures by ground-truthing; 2) Determine the relationship between vegetation classifications from aerial photos and satellite imagery in the Cooper Landing area; 3) Provide aerial photos and satellite interpretations of vegetation classifications in digital formats to CNF; 4) Provide an analysis of forage availability between different age classes of enhancement areas; 5) Provide a detailed summary of the project. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has the foremost responsibility and authority for the management of wildlife species in the State of Alaska. In addition, Alaska Department of Fish and Game owns the proprietary datasets associated with this work. Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game has trained professionals to do this work efficiently and effectively. Total estimated value of the purchase order is $35,000.
