The Library of Congress intends to award on a sole source basis, a contract to ASRS C/O Liberty Systems,Inc., Bethesda, MD. 20814. The contract is for installation of compact shelving at the new National Audio Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC) in Culpeper, VA. The shelving being provided by ASRS exactly matches a significant amount of existing shelving which belongs to the Library, and has already been installed in a temporary fashion in an Elkwood Va. warehouse. These existing Elkwood shelving units will be relocated to the NAVCC site in Culpeper and incorporated with new matching materials into one inventory for installation at the NAVCC site.
In order to maintain consistency with regard to repair, maintenance, future expansion, and overall inventory, the new materials are being purchased to match the existing materials, which is (EleCompack). In addition, the existing shelving units can only be salvaged and reused if they are incorporated into a like inventory, and installed by technicians who are trained and qualified to install those specific materials.
The main support structure of the EleCompack system incorporates significant structural integrity via the use of features such as the recessed mounted carriage. The Libraryââ¬â¢s collection requires a complex, sturdy shelving system capable of storing priceless audio/visual media collections, the majority of which are extremely heavy, yet fragile. The EleCompack shelving units were selected under a competitive process for the Elkwood installations because of those technical qualities, in addition to having the lowest price. We are allowing a posting time of (15) days. A copy of the full solicitation will be posted on this site on 18 February 2004.
