DESCRIPTION:
The National Institutes of Health - NICHD intends to procure the services of a contractor to provide CLN3 Biomarker discovery panel: Neurology 4-Plex Advantage Kits with SR-X Disc Kits and Wash Buffers.
Project Background:
focused on two rare genetic disorders, Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, and Niemann-Pick
Disease, type C1. Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS) is an inborn error of cholesterol
synthesis that results in birth defects and cognitive impairment. Niemann-Pick Disease, type
C1 (NPC1) is a neurodegenerative, lysosomal storage disease due to impaired intracellular
cholesterol transport. The goal of this section research efforts is to combine both basic
science and clinical expertise to develop and test novel therapeutic interventions for SLOS
and NPC1. This project seeks to identify biomarkers that may be a clinical significance.
According to the Research Lab, only one”This company has the proprietary chemistry for these kits. These kits will allow the laboratory to use less sample than conventional ELISA or western blot technologies. As these are volume limited samples the less we need to use the better.”
