The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Infectious Disease Laboratory wants to purchase a New Fluidigm Juno System. The purchase will include equipment, installation, and onsite training. The Minnesota Department of Health, Public Health Laboratory (MDH-PHL), Infectious Disease Laboratory was awarded funding through the Centers for Disease Control Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (CDC-ELC) Federal Grant program to purchase a New Fluidigm Juno System and supplemental supplies to participate in a CDC Enteric Diseases Laboratory Branch pilot program. Enteric diseases are caused by micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria and parasites that cause intestinal illness. These diseases most frequently result from consuming contaminated food or water and some can spread from person to person. The Fluidigm Juno System is the only equipment that that can meet the requirements of the pilot study that MDH-PHL is participating in. Since the program is a pilot study, duplication of method (including the use of the Juno equipment) is critical for participation. The pilot study will answer the questions of how well the designed testing system works in a public health laboratory setting and whether the Juno system Salmonella IFC produce comparable results to the standard laboratory methods nationally. In addition, the pilot study will also be used to identify workflow, technical and analytical problems of program. It is necessary to duplicate the exact instrumentation, supplies and system software for proper comparison. Additionally, the installation and service of the Fluidigm Juno System requires support, training and software maintenance plans that are available exclusively from Fluidigm.
