NASA JSC has a requirement for five Nikon D4 cameras used for the central imaging unit for the External High Definition Camera (EHDC) due to be deployed on the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA JSC intends to purchase the items from Nikon Inc. The D4 cameras are a special order for the ISS that has been specifically modified, by the company, to fly aboard ISS. The EHDC project has completed and in order to sustain the EHDC central imaging unit the Nikon D4 cameras inside each EHDC will need to be replaced with new ones. The D4 has been discontinued and Nikon, Inc. is the only one that has the network available to find where the remaining new D4 cameras exist.

The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.

Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact no later than 4:30 p.m. local time on September 13, 2016. Such capabilities qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
