The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Nanoscale Device Characterization Division, plans to acquire an Imaging Spectrograph with enough resolution to allow for spectral interferometry at a resolution of 0.1 nm., while simultaneously having high light throughput so that small signals can be measured. This spectrograph shall replace an obsolete, two-grating spectrograph in a multidimensional spectroscopy system. Due to the fact this spectrograph is one piece of a custom-built instrument, its specifications for resolution and wavelength are constrained.
The procurement of this spectrograph shall allow the Nanoscale Device Characterization Division to improve its capabilities in ultrafast nonlinear optical spectroscopy. To maximize optical throughput, the spectrometer must use a single diffraction grating for dispersion, must have a length of at least 750 mm, and must have an aperture ratio of at least f/8. To allow automated scans over a wide wavelength range, the division requires the instrument to have a turret capable of holding three diffraction gratings of varying blaze wavelength and ruling. Due the fact, the multidimensional spectroscopy system where this spectrograph will be installed is highly space constrained, the instrument must fit into an 18 x 36 inch optical table footprint.
NIST has performed extensive market research, including a sources sought (AMD-SS19-08), and found that Teledyne Princeton Instruments is uniquely qualified to fulfill this requirement, as they are the only manufacturer that can meet all of the minimum requirements. Teledyne Princeton Instruments can provide a spectrograph that has enough spectral resolution and throughput and a three grating turret while also being compact enough to fit within the optical table footprint specified.
Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION and shall be in accordance with the Contractors established manufacturing lead times.
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 1000 employees.
