The objective of the hearing is to hear evidence regarding contentions against the Indian Point License Renewal. The NRC requires the services of a hotel and conference center within close proximity to the Indian Point Energy Center (IPEC) to give interested parties and the general public the opportunity to attend the hearing. To ensure an open and accessible process, the hearing must be held within close proximity of the IPEC, located at 450 Broadway Street, Buchnan, NY 10511.
The Doubletree is the only conference center that is located within eighteen miles of the IPEC, has availability on the hearing dates, has solid walls (without partitions) suitable for exchange of proprietary information, and has the layout and capacity to accommodate approximately 200 attendees, including NRC staff, hearing parties and members of the general public, for the hearing. The Doubletree is located approximately 17.6 miles from IPEC and offers a large ballroom with 4,250 sq ft, two chambers spaces directly adjacent to the ballroom, and solid meeting room walls (without partitions). The Doubletree also has familiarity with NRC's security and meeting requirements as demonstrated by performing the May 17, 2012 "Public Meeting Hosted by the NRC to Address 2011 Assessment of the Plant". Therefore, the Doubletree is the only conference facility that can meet NRC requirements in support of the hearing.
