Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) seeks expressions of interest, technical comments and budgetary estimates from firms interested in providing (80) extruded copper conductor lengths as shown on attached PPPL drawing 3D0212-SK.  The conductors will be used in the fabrication of a new Ohmic heating electrical coil being proposed for the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) device located at PPPL in Plainsboro, New Jersey.  The extruded copper conductors are wedge shaped and will be manufactured with or without a cooling hole inside the x-section.  Vendor should note whether they are capable of manufacturing the conductor with a hole [hole size may change].  The material for the conductor is silver-bearing oxygen free copper alloy. Copper grades of CDA 104, 105 or 107 are acceptable.  The conductors would be manufactured in minimum 247 inch lengths.  The tolerances on the conductors have not been established, but the manufacturer's tolerance capability would be appreciated. PPPL expects to release a competitive solicitation in January 2010, with award of an order in February 2010.  Firms interested in supplying this requirement are requested to provide written expressions of interest to PPPL. The response should include: complete contact information (firm name, address, representative name and telephone/fax/email); a statement of the firm's experience in the manufacture of conductor of similar size and configuration, including customer names and dates of delivery; a statement of the firm's ability to meet required tolerances and whether or not the firm will be able to manufacture the conductor with the cooling hole; and a non-binding budgetary estimate of the cost to fabricate the total required quantity of conductor. Responses may be sent by letter, fax or email to the address indicated below. This announcement is not a request for quotations or proposals, and firms will not be reimbursed for costs incurred to respond to this announcement.
