First published Thursday, February 18, 2016 The University awarded a contract for ORS Slush Basin with Auto-Stir® & Warming Drapes to Microtek Medical Inc, Alpharetta, GA, for an estimated $390,000. Purchase from Microtek Medical their Hush-Slush Machine supplies that include Auto-Stir® temperature control slush and Warming Drapes for the Hospital's Transplant Program. The Hospital has four "Hush Slush" machines and the continual purchase of slush and warming drapes is needed. The ORS Warming & Disc Drapes are manufactured for, and used exclusively with, the ORS Fluid Warming System. In other words, transplanted organs are held and moved via the ORS Warming & Disc Drapes to keep the organs sterile and temperature controlled. The ORS Fluid Warming System only uses these patented drapes. The ORS Warming & Disc Drape is the only Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certified drape for use exclusively with the ORS Fluid Warming System. The ORS Warming & Disc Drape includes a sensing device (U.S. Patent No. 7,347,210) that is typically arranged through the drape to provide a signal indicating the presence of liquid and/or leaks within the drape basin to the system to facilitate control of system operation. In addition, the sensing device may be affixed to more than one basin drape(s) and utilized in a multiple basin thermal treatment system. The ORS Warming & Disc Drape forms a drape receptacle within each basin, while the sensing device is typically arranged within each drape receptacle to detect the presence of liquid and/or a leak within that drape receptacle. The ORS Warming & Disc Drape also allows for disposal of a conductor or other object through the sterile surgical drape while maintaining the sterile field. If using the cooling aspect of the system, a dislodgment mechanism may be employed to manipulate the drape and dislodge frozen pieces of sterile fluids or matter adhered to the drape. Information pertaining to the sterile fluids or matter and system operation may be displayed on a system display that has dimensions sufficient to provide visibility of the information to users located within extended ranges from time system. Alternatively, the ORS Fluid Warming System may be responsive to a remote control unit to enable users to control operation of the system remotely. The remote control unit may control various operating parameters and features of the system and emit system commands in the form of code signals. A receiver is employed by the ORS Fluid Warming System to receive the transmitted signals and facilitate system operation in response to those signals. In addition, the foot switch and remote control unit may be utilized with multiple ORS Fluid Warming Systems. The ORS Fluid Warming System's visible display confirms the fluid temperature at the point of use. The fluid temperature can be adjusted in the sterile field.
