Stoller-Navarro Joint Venture (SNJV) as a Prime Contractor to the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration, Nevada Site Office (NNSA/NSO) is seeking support services to provide accurate quantitative petrographic analyses support. SNJV is soliciting proposals from qualified subcontractors. The contract will be for a base period of May 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009, with three, one-year option periods beginning October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2012.
Location of Sample Area:
The NTS is located approximately 65-miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV. Samples will be taken from the Western Pahute Mesa and Timber Mountain areas located within the NTS and the Nellis Test and Training Range, approximately 60 miles northwest of Mercury, NV (base camp).
Description of Work:
Provide geologic and geochemical technical services and expertise to compile, organize, evaluate and document existing NTS x-ray diffraction mineralogical data for inclusion into the Southwestern Nevada Volcanic Field (SWNVF) database.
Provide accurate petrographic analysis of rock samples produced by Phase II drilling for Pahute Mesa. Preparation and initial petrographic analysis of typically 25 ââ¬â 35 samples per drill hole will be required. Samples to be analyzed will be taken by on-site UGTA geologists. Detailed petrographic analyses are to be performed on a subset of the initial samples as needed. Limited consideration and comparison of XRD and XRF analyses of analogous samples in the analysis is expected. It is estimated that there will be 10 drill holes.
The purpose of these analyses is to identify the stratigraphic units these boreholes penetrate in relation to previously defined stratigraphy of the southwest Nevada volcanic field. This is likely to require identifying hydrothermally altered mineral assemblages. Full reporting of results is required including annotated photomaps prepared according to U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) procedures currently in development. Annual trips to Las Vegas for the UGTA Technical Information Exchange meeting for presentation of results are expected.
Preferred Background:
The requirements to perform this work include a MS/PhD in Geology; a minimum 15 years experience in geologic characterization, including mineralogical characterization of the Tertiary volcanic units of the southwestern Nevada volcanic field; familiarity with all potential Nevada Test Site area XRD data sources; ability to effectively integrate the compiled data into an existing petrographic, geochemical and geophysical database using specified quality assurance protocols; and ability to effectively document geologic and petrographic analyses as evidenced by publication history.
Provide resume with Request for Proposal.
Period of Performance:
Date of award (anticipated by May 1, 2009) through September 30, 2009 (Fiscal Year 2009); October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010 (Fiscal Year 2010); October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011 (Fiscal Year 2011); and October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012 (Fiscal Year 2012).
