This is an ultra-high-powered microscope that allows examination of objects up to 60,000 times. It allows a questioned document examiner to determine visual characteristics of photocopy and printer toner; examine occlusions (bits of material embedded) in paper; determine the sequence of strokes of writing/printing media (ink, toner, typewriter ribbon) to determine in what order they were laid down; and compare edges of paper that were torn or cut, to determine if they were at one time attached. The instrument also has an elemental analysis capability to be able to detect what chemical elements are in the substance being analyzed (paper, toner, inks), and see if they came from a similar source, or different sources.
This acquisition is for purchasing an ultra-high-powered microscope the Phenom XL SEM with associated equipment (ultra-high-powered microscope);
