NUWC Division Newport intends to acquire engineering services on a sole source basis from Northrup Grumman Navigation Systems to verify compliance of the Virginia Submarine Light Weight Wide Aperture Array (LWWAA) system performance to ship environmental requirements. This testing will stress the electronics and may result in failure of component parts. The testing is scheduled during the period 7/02 to 12/02 for an estimated 160 hours of engineering labor. Northrop Grumman Navigation systems is the developer and manufacturer of the Virginia Submarine OPTO Electronics. These electronics are unique to the LWWAA system . As the designer and manufacturer of the LWWAA system, Northrop Grumman has the unique knowledge and skills that pertain to this system. The security classification for this effort is SECRET.
