CORRECTED SF-18 REQUEST FOR QUOTE IS A 100% SMALL BUSINESS - SET ASIDE.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this purchase it to test juvenile yellowtail (Seriola lalandi) swimming performance (as measured through maximum sustainable swimming speed and endurance) and oxygen consumption. This is part of our aquaculture research to compare the fitness of farm-raised yellowtail having different genetic signatures and raised under different environmental conditions. Farm-raised yellowtail fitness will be compared to wild caught individuals.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Needed is a compact closed-system recirculating water tunnel with a variable flow rate controller (to change fish swimming velocity), an oxygen sensing and data acquisition system to measure fish oxygen consumption, and flow probes to measure and calibrate water velocity. The working section of the tunnel must allow for fish 5-15 cm in length and must have a maximum flow rate of 1 m/s or more in order to determine fish maximum sustainable swimming speeds. The swim tunnel must contain a small water volume (approximately 5 L) for maximum sensitivity in recording water oxygen concentrations and must be have temperature control in order to minimize errors associated with oxygen solubility and fish metabolic changes with temperature. All fittings and equipment must be made of anti-corrosive materials for saltwater use.
