The purpose of this RFP is to provide the Buffalo Public Schools with a rigorous, interactive high school, World Music textbook aligned with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. This textbook will be available to all schools offering World Music for students and teacher use. The textbook must be available in English and Spanish, culturally responsive, offer supports for students identified as English Language Learners and Special Education as well as offer online resources. The textbook must introduce students with little to no music theory background to world music cultures and the basic elements of music including pitch and melody, rhythms and dynamics, texture, and timbre and musical instruments. The scope of the textbook should include cultural elements, musical life, and a closer look at the specific cultures and genres of music throughout multiple regions of the world including Sub-Saharan Africa, The Middle East and Northern Africa, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Latin America, North America, Central Asia, India, China, Japan, and Indonesia. Additionally, the program must be adaptive to meet the needs of all learners, including special education, and advanced students.
