The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (“CMPD”) consists of 1,900 sworn officers and 539 civilian employees who are committed to preventing crime and enhancing quality of life throughout the City of Charlotte (“city”). As communities across the nation reimagine their police forces, the city seeks to ensure that: 1. The duties assigned to CMPD officers fit within the department’s mission, capabilities, and legal directive; 2. The tactics and procedures emphasized in CMPD’s training curriculum correspond with the situations that officers are most likely to encounter during their service; 3. CMPD’s recruitment efforts match the department’s geographic and demographic diversity goals; and 4. The CMPD application process is efficient and effective. The SAFE Charlotte report, adopted by the city on October 26, 2020, is a summary of the city’s past actions and future goals to reimagine CMPD. Included in the report are six recommended immediate actions the city can take to implement these goals. The city is seeking one or more partners to provide services associated with four of these recommendations.
