The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the Department of Defense (DoD) Medical School and Health Sciences University, hereby announces its intent to acquire on a sole source basis with BECTON, DICKINSON AND COMPANY (DBA BD Biosciences) in San Jose, CA for full service and maintenance for a BD Cytometer LSRII Special (product no. 345383), a laser sapphire (product no. 642084), laser cube (product no. 642079), and a hene laser (product no. 337786). The award will result in one base year and one option year.

This BD system is highly specialized in design and application requiring software and firmware updates and system component upgrades that are proprietary to BD Biosciences. BD Biosciences is the only company known to have specialized technical knowledge as well as the necessary tools, manpower and repair parts to maintain this iece of equipment in an operable state.

This award is IAW FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1) and authorizes USUHS to award contracts when only one source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
