The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to award a sole source purchase order to Varian Medical Systems to perform a system performance audit, provide a preventative maintenance service call on the computed tomography (CT) system, and provide training to Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) staff members to utilize ACTIS, the system control software. Varian Medical System is the sole manufacturer of BIR CT systems. This company developed and has the proprietary rights to the ACTIS software. ACTIS is the software package associated with BIR CT systems that coordinates the scanning and reconstruction process and produces 2D cross sections. Varian Medical Systems is the only known source that is able to service the CT system and train TFHRC staff members to utilize ACTIS software. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is May 8, 2009.
