The National Forests in Alabama has a requirement for Sipsey Wilderness Trail Clearing. This work consists of cutting, clearing and removing downed and leaning trees using traditional hand tools, over approximately 13 miles of horse and hiking trails located within the Sipsey Wilderness. The project is located entirely within the Sipsey Wilderness on the Bankhead Ranger District, Bankhead National Forest, along all or parts of designated trails 208, 207, 204, 206, and 209. Clearing widths are 8 feet on 2 miles of horse trail, and 4 feet on 11 miles of hiking trail. All work will be done inside the boundaries of the Sipsey Wilderness; therefore the use of motorized or mechanized equipment is prohibited. Live stock may be used on 2 miles of horse trail. Most downed trees are Pines and Mixed-Hardwood tree species averaging approximately 3 to 25 inches in diameter with a dense limb structure. Not all of the 13 miles is affected; however, downed trees are scattered in spots along the entire course of trails 204, 206, 207, 208, and 209. Additional information will be included in the solicitation regarding the damage assessment. The solicitation should be available/posted ARO 14 Jul 2011. The size standard is $7 million under NAICS code 115310. Period of performance will be 6 months - 180 days. This is a Small Business Set-Aside solicitation.
