Program description: The New York State Geological Survey (NYSGS), an affiliate of the Research & Collections unit of the New York State Museum, seeks bids for possible drilling for the upcoming 2021 summer/fall field season of geological mapping with the intention to begin sampling as early as May - June, 2021. At present we anticipate the potential need for continuous sonic sampling in central New York as part of STATEMAP project operating in conjunction with the USGS National Cooperative Geologic Mapping program. Funds to contract this work are finite and were received via a competitive grant process; as a result all bids will be scrutinized closely and should include details pertaining to all materials and ancillary costs (e.g. bags of holeplug, fuel, per diem, mobilization, standby time, etc.). In addition, all charges should be based on footage and not a daily rate and clearly expressed. If the sonic coring work described below is required, bids will be selected based on the most reasonable cost, estimated time of completion, and demonstrated expertise. These are non-construction based projects and prevailing wage rates do not apply. Scope of work: Tompkins and Cayuga Counties, New York project # 0121 –Tompkins County and Cayuga County, NY the NYSGS anticipates the potential need for six rotosonic cores in Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY Region) and five rotosonic cores in Cayuga County (Auburn, NY region). Sonic rigs should be rated to core to depths of at least 250 feet. We anticipate the need for approximately 2500 total feet of sonic core drilling to characterize the surficial geology. Surficial geology consists of unconsolidated alluvial and glacial sediments (glacial till) of unknown thickness; however, many areas have been identified to have thick sections of overburden observed in in water well records. Emphasis is on sample quality; we are a museum\scientific survey and our objective is to recover plant macro fossils and other fragile specimens contained within glacial sediments. Sonic drilling with sample catchers will be the utilized method for exploring these sites. All boreholes need to be sealed in accordance with NY State water well requirements (grouting, bentonite chips or benseal). Sites will be in a variety of localities such as farm fields, parks, and state land, track mounted rigs are preferred. NYSGS will arrange for permission and access to property. Water will not be provided and will need to be obtained if required; NYSGS will try to assist with this. In addition, spoils, cuttings do not need to be containerized. For clarity please submit bids based on a per foot breakdown and denoted “Sonic Project #0121” in email subject line. Please include the following information with your bid. Initial Mobilization cost from base of operation to Ithaca, NY and return Site to site mobilization cost per mile Footage charge per linear foot Specify maximum coring depth capability and core diameter Standby rate per hour Per diem Thank you for your time and consideration, we look forward to receiving a bid from your company. Bids need to be received by 5:00 pm October 15th, 2020.
