First published Thursday, October 24, 2013 The University awarded a contract for Starbucks Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment to Starbucks Coffee Corporation, Seattle, WA, for an estimated $300,000. In November 2012, the University of Illinois purchased three Starbucks franchise licenses at $30,000 each under sole source posting 1JKM13Starbucks. A Starbucks coffee shop will be placed in the University Bookstore, Illini Union, and a third undecided location. The coffee shops will be phased in over a three year period. All Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment must be purchased from Starbucks and a Starbucks-authorized installer must be employed as indicated in section 6.4 of the Starbucks Master License Agreement. We will also hold a hearing if any vendor submits a signed statement showing the capability to provide the stated supplies/services at or below the amount indicated. The public hearing allows any interested party the opportunity to testify for or against the sole source determination as described in this notice. The purpose of the hearing is to receive information from the public in a reasonable manner. Formal rules of evidence will not apply. The hearing officer will produce minutes of the hearing and may record it in order to aid in the production of the minutes. After conclusion of the hearing we will decide whether the sole source determination was appropriate.
