The National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH/NIAID) in support of Laboratory of Viral Diseases intends to negotiate on an other than full and open competition basis for the renewal of a preventive maintenance and repair service contract for a TecnaiSpirit transmission electron microscope (serial # D1153) with FEI Company (5350 N.E. Dawson Creek Dr. Hillsboro, OR 97124). FEI is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the transmission electron microscope, and their technicians/engineers are trained to provide service and maintenance on this instrument while maintaining the equipment within a BSL-2 environment, therefore subcontracting possibilities are not an option. This is not a request for proposal. Changing the parts and support services to the equipment at this time could introduce variables that may negatively affect the current project. The statutory authority for this sole source requirement is 41 U.S.C. 25(c) (1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1 only one source available, no substitutions possible. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT CONSTITUTES THE ONLY SOLICITATION; QUOTATIONS ARE NOT BEING REQUESTED, AND A WRITTEN SOLICITATION WILL NOT BE ISSUED.
