ADVERTISEMENT FOR EXECUTIVE ARCHITECT UCLA requests a written response to this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to select an Executive Architect for the proposed UCLA Gayley Center Seismic Correction (Project #908714.01). The building, located in the heart of Westwood Village located at 1145 Gayley Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024 consists of three floors above grade and two parking levels below. Recent structural evaluations - In 2019, Nabih Youssef Associates Structural Engineers conducted a seismic evaluation of the building and made recommendations for improving the seismic performance of the existing structure. The principal focus of the seismic correction will incorporate diagonal bracing, mid-span along the majority of beams supporting the roof. The space between the existing third floor finished ceiling and the underside of the roof currently contains existing building infrastructure, including ductwork, conduit, and plumbing, which may require modifications, to accommodate the proposed seismic upgrades. The Executive Architect will be expected to conduct necessary site surveys and coordinate all relevant disciplines with the structural scope of the seismic upgrade. The building is currently occupied by UCLA and commercial (non-UCLA) tenants and all access requires pre-approval. The Executive Architect shall make recommendations for phasing or sequencing the construction work, to minimize impacts to the tenants. Construction costs could be in the range of $1.5 to $2 million depending on the agreed-upon scope of work and sequencing of the schedule for occupied spaces. As applicable, and based on the specific scope of work required, the design shall comply with the University of California Policy on Sustainable Practices to target a minimum of LEEDTM Silver rating. Final selection and appointment of the Executive Architect are contingent upon project approval by the University of California Board of Regents or their delegated authority and under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This RFQ is for full design services; however, the University reserves the right to defer negotiations for services other than pre-design studies until the completion of the pre-design phase. The University may elect to pursue a Construction Manager at Risk delivery method. The complete RFQ packet will be available at http://www.capitalprograms.ucla.edu/Contracts/RFQProjects on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Responses to the RFQ are due by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020. A shortlist of firms will be determined by a screening committee; further steps in the selection process will be at the discretion of the selection committee. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University policy. Each Candidate Firm may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. Peter E.
