The goal of this project is to build out a Recertification Training Room for the ROCC for the purposes of provide AIM Training and Recertification activities for the Train Controllers. In 2005, WMATA implemented the Advanced Information Management (AIMS) system developed by Rockwell Collins Inc. to replace the RAIL Operations Control System (ROCS). AIMS consists of proprietary and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) application software and custom and off-the-shelf hardware. AIMS provides status monitoring and control for Metro Rail operations. This includes monitoring and control of train movement, interlocking, third rail and other power, intrusion detection, fans, drains, pumps and other systems. AIMS interfaces to other WMATA applications such as the Rail Performance Monitoring (RPM) system, Train Progress Server (TPS), and the Passenger Information Display System (PIDS). These interfaces provide essential data to AIMS and to/from WMATA rail operations. In the current AIM production configuration, ROCS has implemented a parallel environment. These environments must mimic production from software version, hardware and infrastructure design. Rail Operations has limited room to conduct rail controller¿s recertification exams. The training room is an extension of the parallel environment currently and it¿s very difficult for the training department to schedule and conduct re-certifications. This room will serve the purpose of allowing the Operations Training Department a facility to accommodate scheduling to conducting re-certifications. Background The primary business objective for this project is to create a Recertification Training Room for the ROCC. This room will provide additional resources for the ROCC to ensure Rail Controllers are properly certified and trained on operating WMATA trains. The Recertification Training Room for AIM must mimic the rail controller environment as much as possible to ensure that the training mimics a real-world environment. Therefore, the exact hardware and software that is in the ROCC must be replicated in the training room environment. This project will exceed the current training room setup in terms of a technical standard and the project delivery of this effort will reinforce the audit corrections associated with the WSMC audit.
