REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY Background The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is in the initial phase of developing its signal system modernization program. WMATA¿s current signal technology is more than 40 years old. The technology being considered to replace WMATA¿s existing fixed-block automatic train control (ATC) system is a Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. With 6 revenue lines, 91 stations, 236 miles of revenue track, and 182 million annual ridership (CY2019), WMATA¿s Metrorail system ranks as the second busiest rail transit network in the United States. Metrorail operates in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. A further extension of the Silver Line to Washington Dulles International Airport and Loudoun County is scheduled to open in 2022, adding six stations, multiple interlockings, a new maintenance facility, and 23 miles of revenue track. In October 2020, WMATA completed an engineering feasibility study ¿ ATC-0024 Feasibility Study Consolidated Report ¿ That compared and rated three train control system alternatives. The engineering feasibility study report recommends CBTC as the best choice for WMATA. WMATA is reaching out to industry experts with this Request for Information (RFI) included in Appendix B, which consists of questions on a variety of topics related to CBTC technology, integration, cybersecurity, vendor experience, safety, and more. As WMATA continues to develop the program, additional information will be gathered to fully understand the current and future train-control products available within the industry. All communication with WMATA must be directed to the single Point of Contact (POC) for this project: WMATA¿s Contract Administrator William Geroux at
[email protected]. Any entity wanting to participate in this RFI must contact Mr. Geroux via electronic mail. Please provide your name, email address, company name, company address, and web address. Once received, Mr. Geroux will provide you access to the documents. Mr. Geroux will provide access to the RFI documents, via WMATA¿s project management system software [PROCORE]. Respondents will also be provided restricted access, within PROCORE, to upload their response to the RFI.
