The Mine Safety Closures project includes the construction of steel bat gates over three abandoned mine openings (Blue Light Mine Complex) within the Silverado Canyon area and the construction of steel bat gates over three abandoned mine openings (Santa Ana Mine Complex) within the Trabuco Canyon area in Orange County, California within the Cleveland National Forest. The purpose of the project is to provide for human safety and to protect habitat for hibernating bats and maternity colonies. Additive Bid Items include the construction of additional steel gates over abandoned mines within the same areas. Contractor will be required to coordinate helicopter transport of equipment and materials to the BlueLight mines since there is no vehicle access. All materials and equipment in the Trabuco Canyon area may need to be hand carried or transported via wheel barrel or approved Off Highway Vehicles (approximately 500 feet) since there is no road access across the drainage.
