The NPS is seeking qualified firms or organizations to resurface a rubberized trail surface using Rainbow Turf. In 2008, a rubberized trail surface, Rainbow Turf, was installed over the existing asphalt trail throughout 2/3 of the trail. Over time, roots have pushed up through the asphalt, causing the trail to form trip hazards. The focus of this project is along the Tar Heel Trail portion of the trail. This project calls for the removal of identified portions of the Tar Heel Trail surface and subsurface, remediation of the cause of the trail disruption, and restoration of the trail surface and subsurface to match the remaining trail surface. The outcome is a restored trail with matching rubber and a remediation of trip hazards from within identified areas.
